Long Term Side Effects for Prostate Cancer Treatment Reported

Prostate Cancer Treatments Have Side Effects

In a recent report published by the New England Journal of Medicine, the long term side effects of radiation therapy and surgical treatment in prostate cancer can lead to the long term side effects of urinary incontinence and bowel disorders. The outcome of the research may depend upon the age of the male patient and the size of the tumor. Medical researchers believe that further studies and survey among these patients need to be pursued. Men with cancer of the prostate are often advised to undergo surgical treatment or radiation therapy as their treatment option but now there is the need to further evaluate the disease to determine the necessity of undergoing these treatments.

Men with prostate cancer are now cautioned before deciding whether to take radiation therapy or surgery as their treatment option in consideration of these long term side effects.
